The Development Of Pgds

As has already been mentioned, a multidisciplinary team approach is important in the process of the creation of a PGD, and should include the healthcare professional(s) who will be administering and supplying medication, as well as a senior doctor and a senior pharmacist. If the PGD requires the administration and/or supply of an antimicrobial then the expertise of a microbiologist or public health specialist must be sought. Before use, the PGD must be authorised by the organisation in which the PGD will be used, for example the relevant NHS Trust or PCT, and all signatures should be documented -those who produced the PGD and those authorising its use, which may include a local Drugs Committee and a named Clinical Governance Lead.
